Strategies of Case Management: Challenges, Solutions and Innovation
6 to 10 April 2015

Synopsis:
This is a 1-week course to examine the various approaches to case management. Backlog is a challenge that almost every judiciary has to contend with. The course will begin with the Singapore Judiciary sharing its experience in eliminating the backlogs in the early 1990s. The multi-pronged strategy adopted more than two decades ago continue to be relevant to address the challenges faced by judiciaries today. Moving forward, to refine the approaches to case management, the modules will include proactive case management, differentiated case management and the modified docket system. The course will also cover innovative ideas such as electronic discovery for civil litigation and judge-led processes to better manage the requirements of different types of litigation. This course will be an excellent platform for judges, magistrates and registrars to discuss the efficacy of the wide range of approaches used to manage case load. This course is specially tailored for Judges and Judicial Officers who have duties relating to case management and judicial administration. There is an added "bonus" module on the International Framework for Court Excellence which will be beneficial to those who are intimately involved in judicial administration.

End-to-End Court Technology: A Compendious Survey
6 to 10 July 2015

Synopsis:
This is a 1-week workshop on the various IT systems used in the Singapore Judiciary ie the Supreme Court, Family Justice Courts and State Courts. The systems include the eLitigation, LawNet, eLex, Integrated Criminal Case Management and Filing System (ICMS), Regulatory Offences Management System (ROMS) and Sentencing and Information Repository (SIR). These systems have made the Singapore Judiciary and legal profession a more integrated, effective, efficient, user-centric and a paper-less system. Participants will be introduced to the thinking behind each of these systems including the vendors that designed and developed each of the systems. Site visits and hands-on will also be weaved into the programme for a first-hand experience. This compendious survey brings together the most comprehensive but concise up-to-date presentation of the latest systems used in the Singapore Judiciary.

Innovating Justice Workshop
18 to 19 Nov 2015

Synopsis:
This is a compact 2-day programme for the SJC to share and interact on the highlights and best practices of the Singapore Judiciary's innovation over the last 20 years. A smorgasbord of high impact topics critical to judges desiring to innovate the justice system will be covered in the 2-day workshop. They include conceptualising and designing innovative judicial reforms, harnessing state-of-the-art court technology and creating legislative frameworks to facilitate innovating justice. The workshop will adjourn on a high note with envisioning future courts.The pedagogy of the workshop will be tailored for adult learners and legal professionals. It promises to be interactive, engaging and stimulating with group dynamics. Only sitting judges from the Supreme Court and State Courts who have been intimately involved in innovating justice will feature as instructors - it is about judges educating judges.
