STARS - Supreme Court Translation Audio Resource System
STARS is a user-friendly database system used by the Supreme Court Interpreters to prepare for court interpreting assignments. The system helps to ensure accuracy, uniformity and consistency in the common bilingual terms and expressions used in High Court proceedings, thus ensuring that high standards of court interpreting and translation are maintained for the benefit of litigants and counsel.
STARS was first developed with a database comprising some 7,000 terms in six main categories (namely Legal, Commerce, Building & Construction, Information Technology, Medical and Latin terms). STARS now has an expanded database of 20,000 terms in eight new categories (namely Logistics, Management, Maritime, Psychology, Securities, Planning & Development, Finance & Insurance and Police Terms).
STARS is a unique database as it provides audio files for all these terms in the four major languages used in Singapore. Accessing the audio files in the English, Chinese, Malay and Tamil languages is just a click away.
