Admission of Advocates and Solicitors - Mass Call 2018

Mass Call 2018 will be held over 3 consecutive sessions on Thursday, 30 August 2018 and Friday 31 August 2018 at the Supreme Court Auditorium (Basement 2). All applicants who intend to seek admission during this year’s Mass Call should take note of the timelines for the filing of the requisite documents in accordance with the Legal Profession (Admission) Rules 2011.

 

The Mass Call Briefing will be conducted on Monday, 27 August 2018, 9.00AM sharp in the Supreme Court Auditorium (Basement 2). Attendance at the briefing is compulsory for all applicants seeking admission at Mass Call 2018. The briefing will take approximately an hour. Applicants who do not attend the Briefing will have their call applications fixed for hearing at the next call hearing scheduled after Mass Call.

Law Society Council Elections held on 24 October 2018 – Request for waiver under section 50(2) of the Legal Profession Act

Law Society Council Elections held on 24 October 2018

 

(For the attention of Advocates and Solicitors in the JUNIOR Category, who have in force a practising certificate on 11 October 2018 (nomination day).

 

The Law Society of Singapore has informed the Registrar that practitioner members in the JUNIOR Category are required to vote in the Law Society Council Election held on 24 October 2018 (“election day”). Please note that under the Legal Profession Act, voting is compulsory and practitioner members in the above category who fail to vote on election day may not be entitled to apply for a  practising certificate.

 

Practitioner members in the above category who are not in Singapore on election day, or have a good and sufficient reason for not voting, may seek a waiver from the voting requirement after 24 October 2018 from the Registrar, Supreme Court. For details on how to apply, please click here.

 

Report of the Committee for the Professional Training of Lawyers

The Committee that was established by The Honourable the Chief Justice Sundaresh Menon in August 2016 to conduct a root-and-branch review of the professional training regime for trainee lawyers in Singapore with a view to ensuring its continued relevance has completed its work. Applications for Young Amicus Curiae Scheme 2019 now open

The Supreme Court would like to invite new applications from advocates and solicitors for the Young Amicus Curiae Scheme 2019 ("the Scheme"). The objective of the Scheme is to allow young advocates and solicitors to assist the Court on novel points of law or important issues of public policy. Young amicus appointed under the Scheme may also be called upon to assist the Court in cases involving first-time prosecutions under new or amended provisions of the law.

The completed application form with all enclosures may be sent via email to SUPCOURT_Criminal_Matters@supcourt.gov.sg in the form of a portable document format (PDF) file or to the Supreme Court Registry (Crime Section) in hardcopy. The subject of the email or the envelope should be marked "Young Amicus Curiae Scheme 2019 Application". The deadline for receipt of applications is 8 October 2018. Successful candidates will be notified by the Supreme Court.
