Memorandum of Understanding for Judicial Cooperation between the Supreme Judiciary Council of the State of Qatar and the Supreme Court of the Republic of Singapore

Singapore, 16 November 2009 - A delegation from Qatar led by Chief Justice Masoud Al-Ameri, President of the Court of Cassation, President of the Supreme Judiciary Council, is in Singapore at the invitation of Chief Justice Chan Sek Keong for a 3-day visit.

This morning, a Memorandum of Understanding (‘MOU’) for judicial cooperation was signed by the respective Chief Justices. Attached is a photograph of the Chief Justices at the signing ceremony of the MOU. This MOU represents yet another milestone in the tradition of close ties between the two countries. It envisages the sharing of experiences and information on various fronts, as well as bilateral cooperation and training programmes, in particular, on the following areas:

a) First, the management of civil cases to ensure their efficient disposal;

b) Second, the use of technology in the administration of justice; and

c) Third, the role of mediation within the litigation process.

This MOU will go a long way in not only enhancing the relationship between the judicial and legal systems in the two countries, but also in improving the respective systems.
