Re-Appointment of Andrew Ang as High Court Judge

Singapore, February 28, 2011 – The President of the Republic of Singapore, acting in his discretion, and in concurrence with the advice of the Prime Minister, has re-appointed Mr Andrew Ang to sit as a Judge of the High Court of Singapore for a further period of 3 years, with effect from February 26, 2011.  Justice Ang took his affirmation of office at the Istana this afternoon.

Born in Singapore in 1946, Justice Ang obtained his LL.B. from the University of Singapore in 1971 and joined its Faculty of Law as a lecturer the same year. He was admitted as an advocate and solicitor in Singapore the following year and obtained his LL.M. from Harvard Law School in 1973. He remained at the University of Singapore for three years and was an external examiner in revenue law for many years thereafter.

In 1974, he joined the firm of M/s Lee & Lee and was made a partner the following year. He was a senior partner and the Head of the Banking and Corporate Department at the firm before his elevation to the Bench as a Judicial Commissioner on May 15, 2004. He was appointed Judge on May 15, 2005.

In 2000, he was conferred the Public Service Medal.
