Swearing-In of Judicial Commissioner Lionel Yee Woon Chin

Singapore, 1 February 2013 - The President of the Republic of Singapore has appointed Mr Lionel Yee Woon Chin SC as Judicial Commissioner of the Supreme Court for a period of one year with effect from 1 February 2013. He was sworn in at the Istana today.

2        Judicial Commissioner Yee was born in Singapore in 1966. He graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Law degree from the University of Cambridge, United Kingdom in 1988 on a Public Service Commission Overseas Merit Scholarship. He was admitted as an advocate and solicitor of the Supreme Court of Singapore in 1993. In 1999, he obtained a Master of Laws (International Legal Studies) degree from New York University, USA on a Lee Kuan Yew Scholarship.

3        Judicial Commissioner Yee started his legal career as a State Counsel in the Civil Division of the Attorney-General’s Chambers (AGC) in 1991. He went on to hold positions in the International Affairs Division and Criminal Justice Division of the AGC, the Ministry of Law, and Singapore’s Permanent Mission to the United Nations in New York.

4        Judicial Commissioner Yee was the Director-General of the International Affairs Division of the AGC from July 2008 to May 2012. On 1 January 2011, he was appointed the Second Solicitor-General.  On 4 January 2013, he was appointed Senior Counsel.
